In 1940, Mills built the motion picture jukebox Panoram. Though the goal was to manufacture 30,000 of them, production was halted at 5,000 due to the outbreak of the war.
The 16mm films that were used for the Panoram lasted approximately 3 minutes.
Between 1940 and 1946, a total of 1,860 of those "soundies" were made.
