The Model 11 was initially designed for taking ID photos for militaries and government officials. Later these Photo Booths became extremely popular, and you could find them at locations like shopping centres, railway stations, and airports.
The operation was simple. You seated yourself on a stool that you could spin up or down. You closed the curtains, and then you could also select a light or a dark background. If you wanted a light background, you did nothing. If you wanted a dark background, you could close the drapes behind your back.
After inserting a coin, the camera would flash 4 times with intervals. So you could have 4 different photos taken.
After 2 1/2 minutes the black and white photos were ready. They were printed on a strip, and you could collect them on the outside of the booth.
The Model 11 appears in several movies, including the Beatles movie "A Hard Days Night". [< back]
