Horse racing cabinet with 12 horses. Date not precisely known. Around 1918.
By turning a handle the horses are put in motion. There are 3 race tracks. So, 4 horses for each track. By turning the handle once again, the speed of the horses on one of the tracks changes. The horses on this track start to run faster. This happens with every turn of the handle, be it with the horses on another track. The race is over when all horses have stopped. The winner is the horse with it's nose closest to the finish line. The lucky guy that put his money on the winning horse won.. a bag of candy.
At the time, these racing tracks were especially found at American carnivals. It is also known that you could find similar games at French casino's back then (see picture postcard). Evans didn't only produce the Portable Candy Race Tracks with 12 horses, but also with 16-20-24 and 30 horses. [< back]
